I know the feeling! I did the same thing with my English Hubby but instead of him moving to the states I moved to England. I never wanted to get marroed but with him it just seemed to work out. We’ve lasted three years and if it ends tomarrow it’lls till be the best three years Ive had so no matter what happens it all feels like it was worth it ^.^
My psych teacher explained the “50%” thing! The numbers they base it off isn’t all marriages – just marriage licenses recieved a year versus number of divorces a year! They’re not even the SAME marriages ending in divorce! This is why some countries have divorce rates ABOVE 100%! It’s because more marriages are ending in divorce there than new marriages happening! XD So don’t worry your pretty little head – it’s actually a much different reality than the media wants you to believe. You guys will do fine! :3
It’s about working for it to work. I’m not married, but I’ve been with my girl for quite some time (only thing I’m waiting for is to get my degree and a good job, then I’ll be a married man :-D ) and what a lot of people don’t get is that while it is great to be with that person, there will be hard times. I have known people who quit as soon as the dancing through the field of sunflowers gets a single weed, and those are the unfortunate ones that get married and divorced so quickly :-(
Megan – Thanks for the post about the rates! That actually makes me feel a lot better :-)
I met my wife for the first time the first week of September, and we were married the first week of October that same year. We’ve been together three plus years now, and I would have to say it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. (Until we have kids, and then THAT would be the best thing)
Dood. Is not about hope, it’s about making the decision to have it always awesome, all the time. You can make yourself be or think anything, and you can make yourself love anyone, for as long as you truly want to. There is no day where you will wake up and think, “This really isn’t working out and I’m not in love anymore.” unless you’re so afraid of it that you don’t think you can keep your mind away from it. Good job enjoying what you have :]
Also, the statistics thing. Statistics have nothing to do with individuals. You hear a lot “Life is what you make of it.” and “Build your own future.” It’s all true because you live in only your universe, you can only perceive your own perceptions. so decide what those perceptions are. If you are going to be in the numbers that you’d prefer not to be in, then it probably will end up your choice that you’re going there. Everyone’s different, we’re all people, with totally different thought processes, emotions, and opinions. We aren’t statistics. We aren’t definitive numbers.
Been there, done that, twice. Both Brits. I don’t regret a thing- the first one was great while it lasted, and the second one is the best thing that ever happened to me. When things get tough, and you pull together and not apart, you will be absolutely fine.
Hee.

All marriages end in either divorce or death! Yay!
I love how the keywords simplify the comic
how did you cope with your distance? i’ve been away from my girlfriend for three days and already i’m dying.
Using LEF as a basis for marriage is absolutely BRILLIANT, especially for politically engaged lefties.
Treasure each other…That’s all I can say.
If I ever get married, I’m so getting an I <3 Heteronormativity sign.

My husband and I have been married seven years; we’ve learned that it takes more than just love. You have to be a good team, too.
I always have the same fears! But they always have the same conclusion, too — hey, we’re happy now! :D
