Hi – I’ve just discovered your webcomic and am really enjoying it so far! (I’m working my way through your archive).
This one really hit home (so to speak) as I’ve never been good at turning my place of residence into home and it drives my SO batty (plus it frustrates me). Thank you for sharing your struggles and writing/drawing these topics!!!
Just a little tip: For those that would shop at Ikea – take a look at the local Salvation Army, thrift ship, yard sales, and second hand stores, first. If you shop around for a little while, you’ll often find furniture which is just as good, and cheaper to boot.
Or for about the same money as at the big-box, if you’re patient, you can find used furniture with a nick or two – that has already lasted a dozen years, and will easily last a dozen more.
Dude, I’m so jealous. There are two Ikeas in Singapore where I’m from, but there’s none in Boise Idaho where I moved to. NONE!
Gotta love the Swedish meatballs. Maybe I’ll take a greyhound to Portland and rent a U-Haul truck back home… My apartment now kinda looks like what yours did before.
I felt the same way after going to home depot and getting a bookshelf for the living room. It’s still covered with boxes, but at least it has a REAL bookshelf (not some cheap wal-mart one that fell apart…. repeatedly, lol) in it now :-)
